more than black and white

This series of paintings of Clarice was originally painted as a personal exploration. It was intended as a method of preserving the memory of a loved companion who would soon move on. Always the picture of grace and composure, Clarice was thus portrayed in the paintings. As drawings of Clarice evolved into paintings, the figures revealed more than just sentiment; they exhibit a quiet beauty and wisdom that celebrate her old age.

Clarice attended the opening of More than Black and White at Secord Gallery (Halifax, NS) on May 25, 2007. She passed away on November 14 that year.
